Ferncliff's Arboretum consists of over
50 tree species for visitors to view and identify. These wonders of
nature combined with our cherished fern-covered cliffs, gentle slopes,
and winding walkways create a comforting and peaceful place to walk
any afternoon.
New trees are planted in the Arboretum throughout the year, either
to replenish the grounds, or to enhance areas not yet developed. Beautification
of the grounds through such planting links Ferncliff today to its
history.
Some of the common yet brilliant species are: Norway Maple, Sugar
Maple, Red Maple, Black Walnut, Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Ash and Green
Ash.
Of particular interest are our unique species which include: Yellowwood,
White Fringetree, Black Tupelo (Black Gum), American Hophornbeam,
Umbrella Magnolia and Pignut Hickory. |
