41.C. ASA BUSHNELL – Born in Rome, NY. Captain in Civil War, Entrepreneur, Governor of Ohio 1896-1900, Died 1904. Section P.

42.C. ELIZA DANIELS “MOTHER” STEWART – Instrumental in formation of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Died 1908. Section L.

43.C. DR. BENJAMIN F. PRINCE – Educator, Writer, Graduate of Wittenberg College. Editor of “Centennial of Springfield” in 1901. Died 1933. Section L.

44.C. ROBERT LAYNE – Born 1758, Died 1845. Served in the American Revolution.

45.C. CHARLES A. CREGAR – Born 1858, Died 1896. Architect involved in designing the City Building, St. John’s Evangelical Church, Clark County Court House and several others. Section L.

46.C. RICHARD O. BRINKMAN – Founder of Clark State Community College. Veteran of WWI. Died 1986. Section WWII.

47.C. SNYDER LOT – John and David Snyder donated land for Snyder Park. John died 1896. David died 1898. Section E.

48.C. HARRY S. KISSELL – Brought Theodore Roosevelt to Springfield in 1917. Coined phrase “Best of 60,000 city in America”. Real Estate Giant. Died 1946. Section O.

49.C. CAP. ED & CLEMENTINE BUCHWALTER – (Mr) President of Citizen’s National Bank and also Superior Drill Company. (Mrs) Founder of Ohio Federation of Women’s Club. Section O.

50.C. GRIFFITH FOOS – Co-Founder of Springfield. Built first house in the original city plat S.W. corner of Main and Spring. Gentleman extraordinaire. Died 1859. Section A.

51.C. OLIVER S. KELLY – Engaged in several ventures including Kelly’s Arcade and Hotel and the O. S. Kelly Piano Plate Co. Section A.

52.C. SAMUEL BOWMAN – Original Board of Springfield Cemetery Association. President of Ferncliff Cemetery for several years. Section C.

53.C. DR. ROBERT RODGERS – Reportedly he performed the first C-Section in the United States. Involved in the first Clark County Medical Society. Section A.

54.C. SARAH MOFFITT – Owned land purchased to increase size of cemetery. Died 1887. Section D.

55.C. JOHN H THOMAS - Industrialist, Philanthropist, He was one of three to donate money for the first hospital built in Springfield. His monument is the tallest in the cemetery Section D.

56.C. GEN. J. WARREN KEIFER - Lawyer, Soldier, U.S. Congressman, Speaker of the House 1881-1883, Died 1932. Section H.

57.C. JEROME UHL – Born 1841, Died 1916. World known accomplished artist. Painted portraits of locals, Phineas Mast, Govrn. Bushnell, Sam Studebaker. Section H.

58.C. WILLIAM N. WHITLEY – Inventor of agricultural tools, Industrialist, Established Springfield Agricultural Works with Fassler and Kelly. Helped build the East Street Works. Section G.

59.C. ZOEY JOHNSON – Local historian, Prime source of information, Open doors, Cleared mysteries from past. Section G.

 

60.C. JEREMIAH & ANN WARDER – (Mr) Industrialist, Publisher, Philanthropist. (Mrs) Teacher, Supporter of Underground Railroad, Warder Library. Section C.

61.C. JOHN CRABILL – Descendant of pioneer Crabill family. Died 1930. This is the highest point in the cemetery and was formerly called Look-out point. Section H.

62.C. DAVID “DAVEY” MOORE – Professional boxer, Featherweight Boxer World Champion. Died 1969. Section Y.

63.C. SULLY JAYMES – Born 1880, Died 1950. Local Attorney who became Grand Chancellor of Ohio in 1934. One of the first members of the Board of Directors of the Center Street. Section Z.

64.C. REV. R. JACKSON – Native American, Cherokee Indian. Section 28

65.C. OLD RECEIVING VAULT – Holding vault for burials in winter months during 1800’s. Before modern equipment. Lower Road.

66.C. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT – A master plan has been developed for the future 9 acres on Sect. 54 to include traditional memorials, family estates, cremation features, and a water feature with additional pond.

67.C. UNIQUE/TRADITIONAL MONUMENTS – Finest quality of granite and unique memorializing in stone today. Section 35, 37 & 38.

68.C. HARRY TURNER – Born 1903, Died 2000. Wallace-Turner Incorporated, Cincinnati Financial Corporation. Quiet contributor to many charitable causes. Section X.
