Ask the Arborist Episode 5: Peak Fall Foliage
Ferncliff Cemetery & Arboretum's onsite Arborist, Mark Goheen, talks about fall foliage and peak viewing at Ferncliff on October 25, 2024.
Video Transcript:
Good morning and welcome to Ferncliff Cemetery & Arboretum. I believe we've hit our peak from the fall color.
Most people know that from your science classes in elementary school that leaves change this time of year due to the length of day. Photosynthesis slows down, so the chlorophyll starts to break down.
So as the chlorophyll starts to break down in leaves, your other pigments start to show up.
This is one of our newer trees we planted this year it's a black gum, Black Tupelo. I would suggest that, as you can see we have a water bag on here, we definitely want to put water on our trees as dry as it's been this year so we want to make sure they go into winter and have plenty of water going in the winter so that'll prevent desecation during the winter.
