Hermann C. Car: 1936 - 2019
Hermann Clark Carr was born in Cable, Ohio in 1936. He began practicing magic in third grade and continued performing throughout his life.
Hermann graduated from Springfield High School in 1955 and wed classmate Marcia Ann Miller. Together they had three children.
Marcia and Hermann performed magical entertainment shows across the midwest for audiences of all ages at stage shows, corporate events, schools and more. Herman and Marcia had the honor of being invited to the White House twice to present their magical show for President Carter for their Easter activities.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Hermann joined the Springfield Police Department in 1961.
In 1968, he founded the "Safety City" program that taught safety classes to thousands of kindergarten age kids. Hermann was awarded Policeman of the Year in 1977.
In his role as a police officer, Hermann marched in the annual Memorial Day Parade with the School Safety Patrol along McCreight Avenue in Springfield for more than 20 years.
In 2021, a portion of West McCreight Avenue outside Ferncliff Cemetery's entrance was memorially named "Herman Carr Way" in his honor.
Hermann died on September 20, 2019. He is entombed in Mausoleum 1 at Ferncliff cemetery next to his wife, Marcia (deceased 2022). A memorial bench outside the mausoleum, was erected by the family and pays tribute to their lives together.
