Ferncliff Lot Decoration Policy

We recognize the importance of honoring loved ones and welcome families to help us preserve the beautiful grounds at Ferncliff Cemetery & Arboretum by placing appropriate decorations in accordance with our policies.

Adornments

Adornments include any decorations or items placed on or around a burial space. Ferncliff regulates all adornments to preserve the beauty of the cemetery and to provide a safe environment for visitors and maintenance staff. Please note that all adornments are placed at the owner’s risk.

Flowers

Flowers may be placed on burial spaces using approved containers. In-ground vases, monument saddles, and flags in proper flag holders are permitted. Any flowers placed in unapproved containers may be removed and discarded, along with the containers and contents, to maintain the appearance and safety of the grounds.

Holiday Items

Families are welcome to place potted plants in honor of their loved ones only at Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Memorial Day. To help us keep Ferncliff beautiful and well cared for, we kindly ask that these plants be removed within seven days after the holiday, or sooner if weather or ground conditions require.

Winter decorations, including wreaths and grave blankets, may be placed from November 15 through March 15. As we prepare for Spring and begin mowing, we ask that all decorations be removed by March 15.

Seasonal Cleanups

To maintain the beautiful appearance and natural environment of our serene and contemplative grounds, it is necessary to have limits on certain types of decorations. This is why every spring and fall, we clean up decorations on the cemetery grounds.

To ensure that our grounds are well cared for, only the following items are permitted to remain after clean ups are as follows: flowers in either an approved vase or a monument saddle; and U.S. & military flags in a flag holder.

We ask that any other decorations be removed before the scheduled cleanup. Any remaining decorations will be discarded.
