Must-See Destinations at Ferncliff
Dedicated in 1864 to the burial of soldiers who died while serving our country during the Civil War.
Ferncliff’s original entrance from the 1800s leads you to our magnificent cliffs that run along Buck Creek. Don’t miss it in spring when thousands of daffodils are in bloom!
A focal point for many, Ferncliff’s waterfall is located near the cliffs at the south end of the cemetery.
Explore the rich history of landmark mausoleum architecture, and uncover the stories of those within.
The Widow's Walk is a unique set of stone steps carved into the cliffs to allow visitors in the 1800s and early 1900s easier access to the burial grounds above.
The stately Cypress trees along Kelly’s Lake are a sight to behold.

Cemetery Gate Hours (visitors welcome when gates are open)
McCreight Street Gate Hours:
- Summer Hours when Daylight Saving Time begins 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Winter Hours when Daylight Saving Time ends 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Plum Street Gates Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Cemetery Office Hours
- Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Saturday & Sunday: Closed

Making a day of it in Springfield? We’re within walking distance of the Clark County Historical Society at the Heritage Center, where you can learn more about the sites you visited at Ferncliff. Veterans Park and the Springfield Museum of Art are also within walking distance.

Parking
Most of our visitors park on the paved roads within our grounds. We ask that you pull to the curb to allow other cars room to pass. Please try to avoid parking on the grass.
There are dedicated parking spots at Ferncliff near the office, by the pet cemetery and by the former superintendent’s house on Plum Street.
For large events, parking attendants will be available.
Visitor Etiquette
We ask all of our visitors to treat our grounds with respect. Observe gate hours, keep cars on the roads, use trash cans for waste, refrain from making loud noises and be mindful of the others visiting loved ones or enjoying the Arboretum.
We ask all visitors to tread respectfully on the grassy areas within our cemetery. Visitors should be mindful not to walk on top of grave markers, not to touch monuments on gravesites and not to remove any items from monuments.
We welcome you to enjoy the beauty of Ferncliff by walking, biking, or simply spending time on our grounds, Leashed dogs are welcome companions, and we kindly ask that pet owners clean up after their pets to help us maintain a respectful and serene environment for all visitors. Pet stations are placed throughout the grounds for your use.
