Introducing: Terra Meadow

Ferncliff’s Natural Burial Preserve in Springfield, Ohio

What is Natural Burial?

Natural burial, also referred to as “green burial” or “eco-friendly burial” is a more natural option for a final resting place with a minimal impact on the environment.

There’s no embalming, and only biodegradable materials are used to facilitate natural decomposition.

Return to the Earth. Leave a living legacy.

Where at Ferncliff will the Natural Burial Preserve be located?

At Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum, we have reserved a beautiful area in the southwest portion of our grounds for natural burial, nestled among peaceful wildflower meadows. Groundbreaking for Terra Meadow is planned for July 2026, with the preserve expected to open in Fall 2026.

Designed to blend naturally with the surrounding landscape, Terra Meadow will feature walking paths winding gently through the burial areas, all bordered by native wildflowers and prairie-inspired plantings that reflect the beauty and tranquility of nature.

Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, Ohio is certified by The Green Burial Council as a Natural Burial Ground.

Why Choose Natural Burial?

At Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum, we believe every family should have meaningful options that reflect their personal values, traditions, and connection to nature.

Natural burial offers a simple, environmentally conscious choice that allows the body to return naturally to the earth, enriching the soil through the natural process of decomposition. Terra Meadow will also offer burial options for cremated remains, providing a peaceful and lasting place of remembrance within a serene natural setting.
