FAMOUS FOLKS AT FERNCLIFF

Dr. Donald H. Guyton: 1921 - 1997

Dr. Donald Guyton was born in Springfield, Ohio on Jan. 13, 1921. He graduated from Springfield South High School, Wittenberg University and received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve. During World War II he served as Captain in the Army Medical Corps stationed in Panama, and as Chief of Pediatric Services in the Caribbean.

In 1949, Dr. Guyton married Marion Hampshire, a staff nurse at the Cleveland City Hospital where he was an intern, and together they had four children. The Guyton family returned to Springfield in 1951 to open Dr. Guyton's medical practice.

For the next 41 years Dr. Guyton well known as a very caring, loving and compassionate man, and continued his Springfield medical practice with dedicated and loving service to his patients. During his career, Dr. Guyton served as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and in the 1960's he spearheaded the Polio Vaccine campaign.

Guyton was active in Christ Episcopal Church, the Springfield Museum of Art, Clark County Medical Society and Clark County Health Department. He also served on the staff at both Mercy and Community Hospital, was former Director of Medical Services at Oesterlen Home. On Oct. 7, 1997 Dr. Donald H. Guyton died at the age of 76.

Dr. Donald H. Guyton rests peacefully in Section 37 of Ferdiff Cemetery.

Dr. Donald H. Guyton was a beloved local physician.
