Ethel F. Holzberg Sanders: 1893 - 1974
Ethel Holzberg was born in Cincinnati, OH, September 16, 1893, a daughter of Jacob & Rose Hilkowitz Holzberg.
She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University Library Schools. And in 1921 married Moses N. Sanders, the manager of Fashion in Springfield, Ohio, a women's clothing retailer.
Ethel's volunteer service to Springfield began when she was appointed to the board of trustees of the former City Hospital where she started a patients' library. She later formed another library at Mercy Hospital.
She served as a member of the hospital steering committee and was active in the organization and planning of the hospital's Women's Auxiliary.
Ethel and her husband, Moses, were very active in local civic affairs. Ethel was a member of the executive committee of the Community Hospital Board of Trustees, and board member of the American Red Cross. She also was a member of the American Association of University Women, charter member of the Springfield Civic Theatre, board member of the Springfield Foundation, Warder Public Library, Temple Sholom Sisterhood and Council of Jewish Women.
Ethel continued her philanthropic activities until her death on November 29, 1974 at the age of 81.
Ethel Sanders is buried in Section G, Lot 263 of Ferncliff Cemetery.
