Gary Geis: 1943 - 2016
Gary Adam Geis was born in Springfield, Ohio on Aug. 1, 1943. At the age of six, Gary began dancing in Springfield. He moved to New York City after high school to begin extensive training on scholarship with legendary ballet instructors including June Taylor and David Howard.
Gary studied ballet, modern dance, jazz and tap during his career. A sought-after instructor and choreographer, Gary mentored dancers in New York City, The Virgin Islands and right here in
Springfield, Ohio at the Gary Geis School of Dance and Company.
As a respected dance educator, Gary also served on the faculty of Wittenberg University Clark State Community College, Wright State University and University of Dayton.
Gary passed away on March 25, 2016. His legacy lives on through his School of Dance & Dance Company and the countless dancers he inspired.
Gary Geis is interred in Section U at Ferncliff Cemetery.
