Spotlight on Arborist Mark Goheen
At Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum, the beauty of the landscape doesn’t happen by chance, it’s the result of years of care, expertise, and dedication. One of the people who has played a vital role in that effort is arborist Mark Goheen, who is now entering a well-deserved semi-retirement!
Mark's Impact at Ferncliff
Five years ago, Mark brought his decades of experience to Ferncliff, where his impact has been both meaningful and lasting. His knowledge has not only enhanced the landscape but also enriched the experience of all who visit. Mark also shared his expertise with the broader community through Ferncliff’s YouTube series, Ask the Arborist, offering helpful insights and answering common questions about tree care.
Mark’s dedication helped Ferncliff:
- Introduce new and diverse tree species to the Arboretum
- Protect and maintain the health of every tree across the grounds
- Shape the peaceful, natural beauty families experience every day
The Man Behind the Work
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark’s character is what truly sets him apart. After marrying his wife Sheri in September 1988, they built a life centered on family, raising their daughter Siara and now enjoying time with their grandsons, Kai and Kel. Sheri describes Mark as someone who gives “110 percent” to everything he cares about—his work, his faith, and especially his family. One of his guiding principles is simple but powerful: when you tell someone you’re going to do something, you do it. It’s a value he has lived by and passed on to those around him.
Mark has always loved the outdoors, spending his free time hunting, fishing, and appreciating nature, passions that naturally aligned with his career. As he steps into semi-retirement, he looks forward to slowing down and spending more time with his family, enjoying the life he has worked so hard to build.
With Heartfelt Thanks
We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and care Mark has given to Ferncliff over the past five years. His work has made a lasting impact on the Arboretum and the community it serves. While his day-to-day presence may be changing, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to grow for years to come.
