Honoring Our Cherished Companions:
Since 1863, Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum in Springfield, Ohio has been committed to serving our community with supportive, affordable, and inclusive end of life services in a beautiful, historic environment in perpetuity. We believe every member of the family deserves a peaceful place of rest, including our beloved pets. With that in mind, in 2018, we opened The Ferncliff Pet Cemetery, providing burial options for beloved pets.
In 2021, we partnered with Meisner & Associates and the L.F. Sloane Consulting Group to establish a Master Plan for Ferncliff Cemetery & Arboretum. The Pet Cemetery was included in this vision, with planned improvements to landscaping, accessibility and more.
On June 28, 2025 we will proudly unveiled these enhancements to our community!
Re-Introducing: Whispering Memories Pet Haven at Ferncliff Cemetery
We’ve renamed this beautifully reimagined section of Ferncliff: Whispering Memories Pet Haven.
“This name perfectly captures the peaceful and reflective environment we strive to create, honoring the deep bonds we share with our beloved animal companions,” said Shelley Baker, executive director of Ferncliff.
Key Renovations and Enhancements
- Entrance: A grand entrance featuring a distinctive steel arch sign, custom made by Hays Fabricating and Welding, Inc. The grand steel arch stands gracefully atop beautifully crafted stone columns to mark the entrance to Whispering Memories Pet Haven.
- Reflection Area: A paved stone walkway guides visitors to a central focal point: a serene space for quiet reflection, featuring granite benches.
- Landscaping: More than 120 new shrubs and trees were planted to frame the space, creating a serene, welcoming environment. A new water line was installed to support the continued care of the landscaping.
- Accessibility: The pet cemetery now has dedicated, accessible parking and clear entry points.
These improvements are part of a master plan designed by landscape architect Roger Beal of Yellow Springs Design and implemented by Ground Systems Inc., incorporating an environmentally friendly design to complement future plans for natural green burial options nearby.
Services and Offerings
Located in the southwest section of the cemetery, North of Buck Creek by the wildflower fields, Whispering Memories Pet Haven spans three acres and is the final resting place for more than 100 beloved pets, with room to ensure we can continue to provide both traditional pet burials and pet cremated remains burial for years to come.

Grand Opening
We look forward to sharing this beautiful space with the community at our grand opening on Saturday, June 28 at 12 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore Whispering Memories Pet Haven, meet local vendors, participate in raffles, and more. Leashed pets are welcome to join.
